What is a pin in chess?

A pin is an attack on a piece that cannot move without exposing a more valuable piece behind it.

When the piece behind is the king, the pin is absolute: the pinned piece is not allowed to move at all.

Pins come from bishops, rooks and queens, the pieces that attack along lines.

Once a piece is pinned, attack it again. It cannot run away.
